Site rules
The rules of this site can largely be summed up with the words 'play nice', but for anyone who is in doubt, the specifics can be found here.
Swearing
Swearing is not allowed. The site has a word filter that should take care of the worst of these, but there will always be ways to circumvent this word filter. Doing so intentionally and repeatedly, however, will result in a warning.
Swearing is allowed in the context of quoting a book, but the word filter will also filter these, so although it is allowed, it is not always possible.
Adult content
No explicitly adult content (i. e. content unfit for children under 13 years of age) is allowed. Posting any will result in a warning.
Harassment
Personal harassment directed at other members is not allowed, and will lead directly to a warning and a temporary inhibition from using the PM system.
Advertising
Posting product advertisements is not allowed. If relevant to a discussion, posting a link to another site or recommending a product is allowed, but creating threads and accounts for the sole purpose of advertisements is not. Creating a thread with inappropriate advertisement will lead to a warning and the deletion of the thread. If an account consists solely or mostly of advertisement posts, it will be deleted.
Double posting
Double posting (i.e. posting twice in a row with no posts by other members in between) is not generally allowed. However, an exception can be made if both consecutive posts are updates on the topic of the thread. An update constitutes a new piece of information which isn't available elsewhere on the forum. In all other situations, use the edit button to add any new content to the original post. Violating this rule will not lead to a warning, but your posts will be merged to the original. Repeated intentional violations can lead to a warning.
Spoilers
Since this is a forum about a series of books, there needs to be rules about spoilering. You can post whatever information you want here; however, if you post information from a David Mitchell book less than a month after its release, you will have to use spoiler tags. The spoiler tag can be found in the toolbox above the text field when you enter a post.
Individual board rules
Some boards have their own individual rulesets, which are to be taken as an addition to these. Before you post on a board, please check whether there is a sticky topic entitled 'Board rules'. If there is, read the rules and make sure that your post adheres to both these 'global' rules and the individual 'local' rules of the relevant board.
Two warnings in a week, or several warnings over longer time, will lead to being banned from using the site. All rules function as interpreted by the staff.
